Using STARTTLS in System | Configuration : Device : SMTP

Looking at the configuration options, it seems that STARTTLS is not supported, only implicit encryption is supported (generally on port 465). This is going to sound a bit goofy, but despite the notes in the "help" section I got a working configuration on our dev LTM. This very same configuration does not work in production.

 

Both devices are "BIG-IP 12.1.0 Build 0.0.1434 Final" dev is virtual, prod is physical.

 

Does anyone have any clues for me about what it going on here or any tricks I can use to get this to work? I'm trying to add the Office365 SMTP service which only supports STARTTLS. This is a screenshot of the working dev configuration which shouldn't work and doesn't work in production...

    It seems STARTTLS is not the issue, STARTTLS works just fine despite the lack of documentation. Our production LTM is refusing to send credentials before trying to send the email. For that issue I'm opening a support case.
