F5 dynamic routing (zebos) and interoperability/compatability with other vendors?

Any of you who have already performed tests or have seen published reports regarding interoperability/compatibility between the dynamic routing which F5 can provide (through zebos according to http://support.f5.com/kb/en-us/products/big-ip_ltm/manuals/product/tmos_management_guide_10_1/tmos_routes_dynamic.html) and other vendors?

Or for that matter have experience from bugs/non-compatiblity issues where the dynamic routing (BGP, IS-IS and/or OSPF) have been used towards a F5 unit (and was that the F5 fault or the other device fault)?

By the way - have anyone heard if and when zebos will be available through the GUI aswell (or for that matter why it isnt already available in the GUI)?

  • Your last point is perhaps a fair one; I suspect as ZebOS isn't F5's software it won't ever be.

I've not used this module but I don't think I've ever seen a DC post around interoperability issues. These are all standards based protocols and ZebOS is used in many other devices and software platforms and has been around a long time. I'd imagine if you did suffer any issues these would be related to vendor proprietary add-ons and there, you've only yourself to blame.

  • only had limited experience but that worked fine. as what lies beneath mentions routing protocols have pretty much reached a level were device interoperability isn't an issue anymore.
