optimal config for an IP forwarding virtual server

Hi,

When I am reading the SOL7595 for best practices regarding IP forwarding VSs I get the impression that 'Loose close' should be enabled, helping to trim the connection table.

But in the same SOL it is noted that enabling this, PVA acceleration is disabled which sounds like a bigger deal to me.

Is this simply a matter of accelerated traffic vs lower memory consumption on my big ip? I guess I could start with the loose close off, and turn it on if memory consumption becomes an issue.

Any feedback is appreciated.

I am using 4000s appliances and running 11.3 hf5

Best regards,

Henrik Noerr.

  • My advice would be to keep it disabled. Turning this on only saves memory for a few seconds in most cases (it's just skipping the FIN ACK and FIN in most cases). As you suggested anyway, keep it disabled and only enable it if low memory due to high connections becomes an issue.
