Virtual server config

Hi,

I had look at a BIG-IP virtual server config today where the virtual server address was a combination of IP address and VLAN number. Eg virtual server address = 10.20.60.56%3692 where 3692 is the VLAN number. Everything is working fine. I'm really confused. I have never configured a virtual server like this before.

Is this a valid config that is used in special circumstances only?

Regards,

  • Actually no. A route domain is to network segmentation what partitions are to administrative segmentation. A partition would be used to give different users and groups segmented configurations and permissions (invisible and inaccessible to others).

You can bind VLANs to a route domain, so the above admin has likely given the VLAN the same number for identification purposes.
