SNMP MIB files for LTM

Just wandering if anyone has ever setup F5 load balancers on HP SIM? I have downloaded the MIB files but they appear to be txt files rather than .mib and .cfg files which SIM seems to require. There seems to be little on this that I can find and would be interested to know if this is possible?

Thanks,

Jon

    While i"ve never played with HP SIM, mib files usually are text files... IIRC way way back when, there used to be a mib compiler for some systems that had proprietary mib file formats... Is it possible HP SIM has one as well?

    Looking at the docs for HP SIM indicates that mcompile seems to want text files as well... They were pretty easy to find on google... http://www.hp.com/wwsolutions/misc/hpsim-helpfiles/simsnmp.pdf

  • Crazy question...have you simply tried changing the file extension to .mib? :-P

    A quick copy from an example in the HP docs referenced above...

    An example follows using excerpts from the CPQFCA MIB:
    CPQFCA-MIB DEFINITIONS ::= BEGIN
    IMPORTS compaq
    FROM CPQHOST-MIB enterprises
    FROM RFC1155-SMI DisplayString
    FROM RFC1213-MIB OBJECT-TYPE
    FROM RFC-1212 TRAP-TYPE
    FROM RFC-1215 cpqSsChassisName

    Looks like text to me...

  • Figured it out....

    Managed to run mcompile but no cfg files were being created for the mxmib to import.....

    issue was good old Windows UAC....friggin pain in the rear...
