Can up/down snmp alerts use member name and pool name

Sorry if this has been asked and answered, but I did try and search first.

We have recently increased from about 10 to100's of server+pool combinations in our BIGIP F5's and as such, ip+port does not really tell us quickly enough what is down/up.

How easy is it, and where do we make the change, to have the snmp alerts for down/up so that they have membername:poolname instead of IP+port?

Paul.

  • I would like to know the answer to this question too.

As traps are generated for syslog messages you would have to somehow change the message sent to syslog. The only way I can think of doing this is to hack some file which would then probably be lost after an upgrade or make a db field change.

I cannot find any field in the db which can effect such a change.

Maybe this is a feature request?

  • I can't think of a way to implement this with a configuration change. You could open a case with F5 Support to check on this. If it's not possible they can open a feature request for you.

  • Was there ever a solution found for this? I have the exact same need and I would really like to get this to work.
  • Hi Erik,

I don't think so. If you're interested in this, I suggest opening a case with F5 Support to see if it's possible. If not, you can request a feature enhancement. If you do this, can you reply back here with the RFE ID?
