Change management IP to be on diff subnet from self IP

Hi folks,

I'm new to F5, so pls forgive if this is a silly question. I've setup LTM VE v10, added management ip (10.2.xyz), and went thru GUI on that ip to configure some other stuff. So far, so good. After realizing that self ip must be on diff subnet, I've changed management ip/netmask/route to be on sep subnet (10.2.zyx) via GUI, which effectively rendered my ltm inaccessible from either web or ssh. Is there any way out of this misery?

Thanks Romano

  • if i were you, i would create temp selfip and then access web/https or ssh via that selfip. so, i won't be disconnected when changing mgmt ip.

the other way is to use console.

btw, no one knows everything. nothing is silly. ;-)

    cheer!
  • Hi nitass,

Thanks for you post. If I create temp selfip on diff subnet, won't I have the same issue?

Also, by console, do you mean re-running the config?

if we use subnet which is not used anywhere in network, we won't hit the same issue.

we can use add/delete/change any config via command line e.g. bigpipe, tmsh or even modify config file directly e.g. /config/bigip_base.conf.
  • I'm pretty positive the ip I tried wasn't used anywhere. Oh well, I'll give it another shot via command line.

    Thanks
