Assigning multiple self ip-addresses to one vlan !

I have already assigned two self ip-addresses to one vlan.

-What I want to know is can I assign one more self ip-address to it ?

-Can any help me to understand how the f5 deal with multiple self ip addresses assigned to one vlan ?

  • I don't see why you couldn't but why so many? Inbound should work normally but I'm not so sure with outbound, particularly where MAC addresses are concerned. I'd expect it to use the first IP address configured but it may not. The best way is to assign the addresses and use tcpdump to capture pings from that VLAN to something and see what the source IP shows as.
  • One reason people add more than one floating self IP is to increase the addresses available for SNAT automap. It shouldn't be an issue to do so.

We are migrating to new ISP, so i have to configure the external vlan with new allotted subnet & same time i don't want to remove configuration at least for next week.
