GTM monitor two IP addresses

Hi,

I'm having difficulties in configuring an ICMP monitor in GTM.

I need to monitor a Generic Host, which has two IP addresses. The two IP addresses need to be responding in order to be considered up.

I configured the two ip addresses in the Address List, of the Generic Server. I also selected the Gateway ICMP monitor, in the Health Monitors configuration.

The problem is that even though one of the IP addresses is not responding, the Server is still maked up. How can I monitor the two IP addresses, and mark the server up only if both IP addresses are up?

Thank you,

Marcio

  • Hi Marcio,

Try adding an alias address of the second IP address and assign both monitors to one host.

  • Hi Aaron,

    Thank you for the reply.

I already tried that, but it still doesn't work. Let me explain how the network is configured:

    - GTM has two self-ips: 10.1.x.1 and 177.x.x1 (internal and external)

    - The Generic Host (which is a Firewall) also has two IPs: 10.2.x.100 and 177.x.x.100 (internal and external)

    - The IP 177.x.x.100 is also the IP address of the Virtual Server in this host

    - The GTM has a static route that states that to reach 10.2.x.100, it should go to 10.1.x.10 (same range of the internal self-ip).

I assiigned the ICMP monitor to the Host, and also created and assigned a second ICMP monitor, which has an alias to 10.2.x.100.

The problem is that the ICMP request that arrives on the Host has a source address of 177.x.x.1, and not 10.1.x.1. So the Host doesn't reply.

If the source-address was 10.1.x.1 it would work fine, because it would be an internal IP pinging another internal IP.

Any ideas? Would using alias be the best solution to monitor two IP addresses? If so, how could I change the source address, so that it uses the internal IP?

    Thank you,

  • Just an additional info. I've been reading in AskF5 and I'm wondering if the reason for it to use the source 177.x.x1 is because I marked "Transparent -YES" in the monitor. Maybe that is the problem?

    Thank you,

  • I had the opportunity to test today, and it was indeed because of the Transparent option. Now it works fine. Thanks!
