Adding new nodes to HA cluster

i am currently in the process of replacing our current HA setup, which consists of 2 3600 boxes, with 2 new 4200 boxes. the plan is to add them in as standby nodes in the cluster, and then sync the config on to them.

the problem im currently facing, is that every time i try this, i end up breaking the trust, and having to reset everything and start from scratch. Are there any special things i should be on the lookout for?

the running HA boxes are on version 11.2, while the new node im currently trying to add is 11.3 i end up with a message saying the new node is awaiting initial config sync, and i have to reset and start from scratch.

Not sure you can mix & match 11.2 and 11.3... But if you can, I'd update to 11.2.1 first as the clustering is a LOT better in 11.2.1 than 11.2.0... I don't think I ever got 11.2.0 down to where it worked for me without problems across >2 devices. (11.2.1 though I have a 6 device cluster on one of the installations, and that seems pretty good apart from the odd stupid moment where one of the devices just won't take a sync because it thinks its in the middle of SENDING to the group... That one requires a reboot more often than not, but I have seen it magically wake up to reality after 2 days of just sulking).

  • i have it on 11.2.1 now, and the basic set up is more or less complete. im however faced with a dilemma in terms of not having a proper management lan to sync on, so previously we were able to set this to run on the internal one, which is fair enough. just waiting for my colleague to get back to on how to set the internal interface up to be used for device trust and syncing, and hopefully i wont have to spend the entire weekend in the data center crying:p

Ah... That implies you don't have the management IP's listed in the failover unicast configuration. You really need to have them in there, even of there's no connectivity between them (I got this from F5 support when trying to sort out why I couldn't get the last 2 nodes in my 6 node cluster).
