Placement of VSs

Hi!

Is there a preferred way or best practice where to place a virtual server? Traditionally you have an 'inside' vlan and an 'outside' vlan and VSs are usually placed on the outside.

In our scenario we have multiple vlans on the inside and one outside vlan. Traffic to the LTM is forwarded from a firewall, so vi could place VSs on any inside vlan, the outside vlan or maybe create a new vlan and place all VSs in there.

Suggestions?

  • As long as the routing works and clients are allowed to make connections to the 'inside' vlans (through a forwarding virtual or having the virtuals enabled on all vlans) it shouldn't matter where they actually live. You just have to keep in mind that without SNAT, LTM will preserve client source IP, so again, you have to make sure that the routing works.
