send SNMP V1 trap

Hi there, was just wondering if it's possible to specify to use only SNMP V1 and not SNMP V2?

9.4 GUI offers SNMP V1, SNMP V2C together as option and SNMP V3 seperate.

Have Spectrum OneClick with SNMP V1 support but when a pool member goes down the trap is a V2C from a sniffer trace.

Can this be modified in anyway?

Also how would I generate an SNMP v1 trap to test this.

tks.

  • hi there, rather then ask again, I'll just bump this to the top, does anyone have any idea? NMS is expecting V1 traps, F5 is sending V2, how can I modify F5 to send V1 traps? Otherwise it's an expense to upgrade the NMS to support the V2 traps.

    Thanks again.
  • Hi,

I'm looking at a both a 9.4.3 box and a 9.4.7 box, and on both boxes the *Access* tab for configuring incoming polling shows v1, v2c together, but the trap destination configuration screen has a dropdown to select v1 or v2c separately. So you should be able to modify the trap destination to use just v1 for each trap destination.

  • thanks you are correct.

So if I select V1 and a pool member goes down, the F5 should send a SNMP V1 trap to the configured NMS, or is there further configuration required on the CLI to configure specific instances to send traps?

    Build is BIG-IP 9.4.7 Build 320.1 Final

Just from a trace the snmp version is V1 okay but the trap is a V2 trap, just a bit confused on that one.

That would be the way I would expect it to work, yes, no further config needed. The admin guide seems to indicate that the version number selected is what should go out. Click here

Not sure I'm following you here...you're saying the version shows v1 but the format is different than it should be? If that's the case I'd open a ticket with support to request clarification.
