Link Controller: Automatic Bandwidth adjustment (CIR)

I have a question. Can LC do automatic bandwidth adjustment or adding of the total of 2 links if one link fails? I'll be setting up 2 Links, Link A and Link B with 2Mbps and 4Mbps respectively. When Link A fails, traffic will be routed to Link B but the available bandwidth of Link B will be increased automatically to 6Mbps to accomodate the total bandwidth link. Traffic should be inbound/outbound. Is LC capable in doing this alone without the use of iRules?

Thanks for your help.

  • Hi,

I think you could effectively do this by setting up costing such that Link A shows "prepaid" up to 2Mbps, Link B is "prepaid" up to 4Mbps, and then has a really high cost from 4-6Mbps so that it never tries to use that unless it absolutely has to (ie, when Link A fails and it doesn't have a choice).

  • what if it is the 4Mbps link that went down? the 2Mbps link should increase to 6Mbps as well to accomodate the other traffic
  • If the 4Mbps side goes down then it would have no choice but to use the 2Mbps link anyway, so the costing wouldn't matter. The costing is not a hard limit, it just tells LC to use the least expensive link in any given situation.
