self and floating ip does not reply

Hello all,

I have two ltm machines in active standby mode.

port 1 of each connect to switch A

port 8 of each connect to switch B in 802.1q and have 12 Vlans

My problem is:

I try to ping from switch a to the self and floating ip of the active machine

and i get no answer.

tcpdump on both interfaces show only echo request and no reply

Does anybody have any idea ?

  • For security reasons, BIG-IP won't response to a ping request for a self IP on a different VLAN than the VLAN the ICMP request was received on:

SOL3475: It is not possible to ping a BIG-IP self IP address from a separate VLAN

  • Hi,

What about a Floating IP ? is it also not possible to ping it ?

I have 2 machines in an active/standby mode:

The self and th floating ip of the active machine is not answering to ping

the self ip of the backup machine is reachable via icmp.

    Is it a normal behavior?

    Thanks
  • Yes the same solution applies to floating IP's, this is normal.
