LACP out of sync errors

We have a redundant pair of 3400 LTMs, and have LACP port trunks working to a stack of Cisco 3750G switches, and to our Cisco 6509 core. However we seem to have trouble getting the LACP to function probably with a new Cisco 3750E switch stack. All settings appear the same, but the F5 and Cisco 3750E switches are complaining about out of sync errors.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

  • Can you post your port channel configuration of the Cisco 3750 with respect to the F5 connections.

  • Sending flow control is unsupported. Receiving flow control is "off".

That's the default. Use flowcontrol to set how?

    flowcontrol (on|off|desired)
  • right, but do you have recommendations on how the flowcontrol should be set on the cisco and/or F5 sides?
  •

For the Cisco you should be able to enter

    set port flowcontrol recieve on

    set port flowcontrol send on

on the Port Channel Group or the interfaces which contain the channel-group.

I am not sure if there is a setting on the F5 that is equivelant to that.

I have never done this between a Cisco and F5, but I had the same type of issue between a Cisco and Generic load balancer and it solved the problem.

  • You have to use true LACP mode on the Cisco side, not Etherchannel (Cisco-proprietary). I think that the channel-group command uses Etherchannel by default unless you specify LACP (I'm not familiar with the exact syntax).

Also the trunk interface on the F5 needs to be in tagged mode on each VLAN to support the multiple VLANs (some people get confused because what F5 calls a trunk is not what Cisco calls a trunk).

    Denny
  • I believe that he already has LACP turned on unconditionally by the command

    channel-group x mode active
