Firepass - F5 RDP error: could not resolve host name : /0.0.0.0

Hi,

I got this error when I tried to login to my remote desktop. I'm using a mac, the funny thing is, it sometimes work and sometimes not. I'm wondering if anyone can help?

Thanks, Cathy

  • I'm having the exact same problem. The weird thing is that it seems to be related to the network i'm connecting from. I don't have the problem at home, but from my company Wifi I get the same message, and the connection doesn't work. However, I can't find anything that could cause this. I connect from MacOS 10.7.5 with Java7 update 40 (the latest version), but I know that (some?) MacOS 10.8 users in my company have the same problem... Did you find anything that could cause this? Do you still have the same problem?

Using java RDP? The (current) Java 1.7 on mac has a KNOWN bug that NEEDS to be able to resolve the FQDN of the Mac itself. It doesn't have to resolve correctly. It just has to be able to resolve (I'm not sure why they even bother, as the fact it doesn't need to be correct to work, proves that the resolution is never used in the first place).

The workaround is to add the FQDN as an alias to the loopback interface in /etc/hosts on the Mac client.

BTW the bug has been open for more than a year on the oracle bug reporter website... I won't be holding my breath for oracle to fix it at this rate

v1.7 (The old Apple Version) doesn't have the same issue.

Yeah... F5 have chased oracle about this bug, but it is apparently up to oracle to fix. Im not sure what system call from the jvm causes the issue, but hopefully they will fixnit eventually...
