LTM 11.3.2 Active Failover Issue

Hi,

I have recently configured HA group on couple of 1600s which are working on Active - Standby topology. The issue i am facing is the Auto Failover is happening itself. I have 2 trunks in the HA group. Each trunk has 2 ports each with threshold of 1. When i take down both the ports on either of the trunk on Active system, it fails over and become Standby, which is fine. But as soon as the trunk recovers on the original (currently standby) system, it takes over and resumes Active status again. Auto Failover is disabled on the traffic group on both systems.

Any comments anyone please ?

Thanks

  • Under System -> High Availability -> HA Group, do you have any values set for Active Bonus on either unit?

      Change primary to 0 and secondary to 1 and see if this fixes your problem. HA Group config from your primary LTM needs to match that of the secondary LTM. These configuration items do not get synchronized between peers.

      Cory, thanks but having exactly the same weight on both primary and secondary forces the secondary to takeover as Active due to Active Bonus value of 1. Current Config on Primary PRIMARY Device --------------------------- Sys::HA Group: LAN-Failover --------------------------- State enabled Active Bonus 0 Score 100 ------------------------------------------ | Sys::HA Group Trunk: LAN-Failover:Trunk1 ------------------------------------------ | Threshold 1 | Percent Up 100 | Weight 50 | Score Contribution 50 ------------------------------------------ | Sys::HA Group Trunk: LAN-Failover:Trunk2 ------------------------------------------ | Threshold 1 | Percent Up 100 | Weight 50 | Score Contribution 50 Secondary Device ( took over active role due to active bonus value of 1) --------------------------- Sys::HA Group: LAN-Failover --------------------------- State enabled Active Bonus 1 Score 101 ------------------------------------------ | Sys::HA Group Trunk: LAN-Failover:Trunk1 ------------------------------------------ | Threshold 1 | Percent Up 100 | Weight 50 | Score Contribution 50 ------------------------------------------ | Sys::HA Group Trunk: LAN-Failover:Trunk2 ------------------------------------------ | Threshold 1 | Percent Up 100 | Weight 50 | Score Contribution 50
  • You may also want to check settings under Network > Traffic Groups > 'name' > Auto Failback

  • OK, I've been reading up. Can you set the active bonus on both devices to 40 please, this should ensure whichever device is active will continue to be active if one link in a bundle fails but not if two do.
