Consolidate Old LTM with Fixed IPs onto another LTM.

We have an old (Ancient) LTM Running 4.5 code that we are migrating to an existing HA LTM pair. We need to maintain internal and external IP address scheme of servers and VIPS on old system. Is this as simple as enabling two new interfaces, Create Vlans and apply self IPs. Then configure external Vlan to use Auto Last Hop and setup a specific internal route for new Vlan. The existing configuration uses default route and don’t want to change if we don’t have to.

Thanks

  • If you're happy to SNAT temporarily (SNAT Automap on each VS) then that should work, you won't even need static routes on the servers. Then, once you've migrated everything you can re-address the new device to reflect the old one's IPs and remove the SNATs.

Sound OK or can you not SNAT?

SNAT Auto Map is fine per VIP, currently utilized in environment. LTM is currently Default Route on servers on old LTM and using automap too. I am trying to avoid creating separate partitions and route domains on new LTM which I have read is one option.

The old environment is very stable and hasn't changed in years. I am looking for the simple setup to migrate off of old hardware onto HA Pair that does not effect the existing setup and downtime.

  • No need for partitions and RDs, as long as you SNAT all will be well. Then it's up to you if you want to migrate the old devices' IPs to the new or change the default route on the servers to the new one once the migration is complete. Pretty simple really.
