monitoring server sees Internet routers as down after connect F5

Hello guys,

Write this due to I have run out of ideas about what could happen here.

I have a 0.0.0.0/0:0 PerformanceL4 virtual server to load balance outgoing traffic across three ISPs. The users can get access to Internet in a load balance way, but network administrators cannot telnet the Internet routers from their PCs. Indeed, the monitoring server (located in the LAN) detects the Internet routers as down. It is kind of weird I know, because there is traffic leaving the entire LAN network 10.0.0.0/8, but one server inside such net cannot telnet the routers.

Do I have to configure something more in the virtual server?

Any comment will be appreciated. Thanks

Luis

  • it is a guess, but i can imagine that the F5 is sending the traffic to be routed by the router further and that the telnet and other monitoring isn't picked up by the router as such and gets lost there. or even that because of the load balancing the traffic is send to another router then the one you want to manage. can you reach the routers from the F5 fine?

do you manage the router on the same address as you send the routed traffic to? is it possible to manage the routers via another network / ip address?

(off topic: dont use telnet, use ssh)
