Service unavailable when analytics is enabled

Dears's

I already deployed F5 Big IP LTM 1600 at a client premises to load balance traffic between 2 HTTP servers running the apache tomacat services on a Linux platform. Everything is running properly until i activate the analytics service (adding the virtual server), at this moment all the clients faces a huge slowness and can’t connect to their application. The F5 version is 11.2 with SNAT enables, no SSL or compression are activated on this hardware.

Note that the CPU is 10% and the RAM is 50% when the analytics service is activated, the hardware normal throughput is 4 MB a peak hours. (Reference Dashboard).

I need to know why the service is degraded whenever analytics is active.

Regards; Antonio

  • What are your resource provisioning levels set to? Check this in System -> Resource Provisioning

  • Hello,

It is set to minimum, i check many references were they advise to be nominal but i'm not sure that this will resolve the problem. As changing AVR resource provisioning level requires a reload and this need to be scheduled in a maintance window.

do you think it is the root cause of this degradation?

  • With a CPU utilization of 10% and RAM at 50%, your clients shouldn't be experiencing issues connecting to applications. What kind of statistics are you gathering in the analytics profile?

  •

Attached is a capture of the configuration of the analytics profile, this configuration consisting of 4 pictures hopefully you receive all of them.

  • Upgrading the provisioning level for AVR to nominal is a good idea. It shouldn't present any risk to LTM. A minimal provisioning isn't recommended and won't allow for AVR to obtain more resources if needed.

I feel your pain regarding maintenance windows and impacting changes. Our organization does the same thing.

  • Thanks for your prompt feedback, i will be adapting the following action plan: Step 1: Changing the provisionning level of the AVR to nominal, if the problem was not resolved. Step 2: I will empty all the buffer logs, if the problem was not solved. Step 3: Upgrading to version 11.4. i will be sharing the results according to the execution frame with the status of this problem. Any other suggestion??

  • I understand that the topic is old, but someone else might be looking for the same information. In my case enabling analytics profile caused disruption to HTTPS traffic. Confirmed F5 bug.

"PD have identified the LTM 11.5.1 is hitting bug id 464287 - Incorrect rechunking in AVR plugin2. This bug id is fixed in 11.5.1 HF4."

Solution: upgrade to 11.5.1 HF4 of higher.

Workaround: set Response-rechunking setting in http profile to anything except "selective". It is the default setting and it is incompatible with analytics.
