Direction or Documentation?

Just a few items I need some direction and or documentation on:

1.) F5 as the Default Gateway for Certain Subnets: Lets say I have my firewall interface assigned a public IP of 1.1.1.1 and the F5 has an Untagged Vlan assigned 1.1.1.2, then a few interfaces untagged on the same vlan, .1 and .2 and anything connected can ping each other, however when I set the default gateway of the VMs to the IP of the self ip on the vlan it doesn't pass traffic, assign .1 and traffic passes without any issues. The servers also have public IP's so no nats of snats should be required.

2.) With the public IPs some servers Id like to see use the features of the F5, cache for example etc, how do I accomplish this without NAT and SNAT etc, when the servers already have public IPs.

3.) WAN Optimization: Why cant I use the Self ip for WAN Optimization, and in turn the default gateway IP will also do the WAN optimization of the F5.

Thanks in advance@!

  • 1) not 100% sure of your network, picture might help. but you have a firewall interface and the f5 self ip in the same subnet with some servers and the servers can exit the network via the firewall but not the f5? that is by design, look at virtual forwarding server to setup routing on a BIG-IP.

    2) why without SNAT? anyway you can just put a virtual server and load balance to to public IPs, as long as you virtual server have the default gateway set the the F5 the traffic returns.

    3) i leave this one for another, little experience with WAN optimization.
