F5 LTM Support on ESXi 5.0

Hi All, We are currently upgrading a vSphere infrastructure to 5.0 U2, this includes the ESXi hosts. It's been pointed out that the F5 matrix only lists 5.0 and 5.0 U1. (Matrix versions 1.3 and 1.4 show this) There is no mention of the later U2 and U3 releases.

Interestingly for 5.1, Matrix 1.3 lists 5.1 and 5.1 u1, but Matrix 1.4 only lists 5.1. In a similar manner the Matrix only lists 5.5 and does not separately list 5.5 U1, U1a or 5.5c. So, it could be that the U releases are no longer viewed separately.

Does anyone know if there is an F5 statement around the Ux releases for a set version? - after all they're only patch releases. Also, is anyone running either the LTM or GTM appliances under 5.0 U2?

  • I thought I'd have a look at the release notes for VE v11.5.1 here: http://support.f5.com/kb/en-us/products/big-ip_ltm/releasenotes/product/relnote-ve-11-5-1.html but it hardly helps. The first two links to the hypervisor matrix go to the 1.4 matrix but the next then goes to 1.3.

Anyway, I don't think it matters at all but if you want to be 100% I'd suggest you get in touch with F5 support. If you do, it would be great if you could post back with their response.

  • Hi All, After a while we did finally get F5 to confirm that vSphere 5.0 U2 and 5.0 U3 are supported Hypervisor versions. I would expect that all Update versions for 5.1 and 5.5 are also supported. But I would advise that you get F5 to confirm. Ideally F5 will update the Matrix to confirm that the Update releases are no longer listed individually.
