P2P blocking needed

I've searched and found a couple of references to block P2P but the link to the solution is always a dead end. I'm new to F5 and need to block P2P software (especially bit-torrent at the moment) as our college is getting notifications of Rights Infringements. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

  • Is send him to "Sales" truly the answer one gets on this forum? I would hope someone with experience and desire to help could point me in the right direction.

sorry you didn't like the response, but there is no handcrafted solution to work with irule. Detecting P2P could be tricky as protocol adapt and change if you block any legacy port. Solution a linked you is what we use to sell to service provider for protocol steering, which you could you for P2P control.

The additional information you have provided would have been better received - thanks for your response
  • personally i don't think this is something where F5 is implemented often if at all. F5 is perfect as a data center firewall to protect internal resources. but not to filter user traffic from inside the network to the internet.

you are probably better off with some nextGen firewall for this task, but even then it remains a constant fight as the p2p application try very hard to get through undetected.
