Upgrading GTMs

Hi all,

 

We are planning to do an update of 2 GTMs (in 2 diff DC) from 11.1 to 11.5.1. There are a few LTMs behind each GTMs. The GTM on my 2nd DC is "passive" (it only gets requests if the first DC is down) This is what we wanted to do and I have questions on how it will work:

 

  • Backup the config of both GTMs (ucs)
  • Reactivate the licences
  • Upload iso/md5 of 11.5.1 + hotfixes on another partition on both GTMs
  • Boot the "passive GTM" on 11.5.1
  • Check if the passive GTM can correctly communicate with LTM (will the big3d dameons be compatible ?) and check DNS polling on it
  • If needed, update the big3d daemons (but that means that the active GTM shouldn't work anymore with this new big3d ?)
  • Boot the "active GTM" on 11.5.1
  • Check if everything is ok (DNS polling, big3d, monitors, traffic-group..etc)

    Hi Thibaut,

     

    After your upgrade the big3ds will be out of step with each other and the GTM that you have upgraded may have issues communicating with other devices using iQuery. You'll need to run the big3d_install script to bring them into line.

     

    If you choose to run the big3d_install scripts against the LTMs first, then once it's done the your primary GTM may have issues with iQuery communication to the LTMs until either big3d is upgraded on it's own or you do the upgrade to 11.5.1.
