HA-Group: include cluster?

Hi all,

I have a question regarding the setup of a HA-Group. I have two Viprion-Chassis with one Blade each, using vCMP (Software 11.4.1). I am just setting up High Availability between two guests. I configured device trust, device groups etc. and now I'm configuring the HA-Group. At this menu I can check or uncheck "include cluster".

Can anyone point me out what this option does?

Is each Chassis one Cluster, and I have to check the box because I want to failover the guest between to clusters?

Thanks in advance

Kind Regards,

Thorsten

  • A cluster is a chassis and the blades contained. Therefore if you have guests striped across multiple blades then the number of blades active within a cluster can be used to control HA.

For example, if you have 4 blades in each cluster and have "Include Cluster" configured then if a blade fails on one cluster, those guests will failover to the device with the most blades.

  • Thanks for your answer Pete.

Okay. So in my example - with only one blade in each chassis - it makes no difference if I check "include cluster" or not. But if I am planning to put more blades in the chassis in the future, it would be a good idea to enable "include cluster" in the initial configuration of the HA. Right?

  • Exactly - no use with one blade but worth considering with more than one.
