TXT record

Hi, I am using zone runner to create a TXT record in GTM. I was given xyz.com to use for the record name . Can I use the xyz.com under zone(abc.com), as the final record name becomes xyz.com.abc.com. Is xyz.com.abc.com a valid TXT record name?

  • Make sure you use a trailing dot in the name of the resource record as BIND requires this. If you don't use a trailing dot the zone name is appended to the record name. i.e. If you enter somerecord.abc.com as the name for the resource in the abc.com zone, the record will be created as "somerecord.abc.com.abc.com.". If you want somerecord.abc.com to be the name of the resource record you will need to enter either somerecord or "somerecord.abc.com.".

  • So can we remove the trailing zone name(abc.com) and just give xyz.com in the TXT record name.

  • Per Brad, if you want xyz.com to be xyz.com.abc.com then leave out the trailing dot. If you want xyz.com to remain as such but available from abc.com the the record would be xyz.com.

    xyz.com = xyz.com.abc.com xyz.com. = xyz.com (but available for resolution within abc.com zone)

    However, are you doing a descriptive text as:

    TxT"This is a text record for xyc.com"

    Or are you doing another record whose values are text-based like SPF?
