Needing to move our big-ip pair to the other side of our data center

Currently Big-IP 8900 pair is in Active/Standby mode using a serial failover cable. Not having to use a super long special serial failover cable, I was wondering if the following plan is feasible with little or no impact.

  • Power down the current standby
  • Relocate Standby to new location
  • Power up and connect network cables, switch ports should be shutdown
  • Force F5 in new location to standby and unshut switch ports
  • Once all is green and ok on Standby F5, shut down active F5 and release standby to Active simultaneously

'm using a previous version so it will not persist the move. "In BIG-IP 11.1.0 and later, the Force Offline status persists through system reboots and upgrades. In previous versions, the Force Offline status does not persist through system reboots."

Use Force Offline on your Standby device, otherwise it'll probably try go Active after reboot since it won't see its peer and assume it's down.

  • You have the necessary step listed: Force F5 in new location to standby and unshut switch ports

Your plan doesn't mention a reboot or software upgrade so I don't see an issue.
