Chnages pending-How to know what elements changed

Hi Everyone,

I have a pair of F5 units with the primary unit showing the changes pending message, the changes were made some time back and it hard to recall what changes where made. I would like to know if this is possible or not if yes how.

  1. How to know which portion of the configuration was changed.

  2. How to know the (time+date) when the configuration was changed.

  3. How to know which user was logged in when the changes where made.

Need input from the experts.

Regards,

  • for 3 you already got an answer from Kevin

for 1 and 2 there isn´t anything easy. you might want to take both bigip.conf files and run a diff between them. the timestamp on the file might show you the last chance date.

  • Hi Boneyard,

Thanks for the reply when u said "run a diff" between the bigip.conf file do you mean i have to go through it line by line or there is some utility available to do this. Also I want to know if F5 Saves the last few configuration by it self let's say if i don't have the earlier bigip.conf file what will happen in this case.

  • Check this thread where the process is mentioned; https://devcentral.f5.com/questions/view-pending-changes-in-cluster

  • and the answers are provided below.

you could also check out this command:

    show cm device-group incremental-config-sync-cache

What if running this command does not give any result but you still see "Changes Pending" status on the F5s ?

you could go back to the check the .conf files and do a diff (linux command).

there are some internal processes which cause the, APM WAP proxy, ASM signature updates, ... you will need to investigate logs and see if you can find something.

it can also be just an error. if it really bothers you and you can't figure it out then open a support case. they can safely instigate your enviroment.
