Exchange 2010 iApp guide says: creates a single virtual server, but iApp creates 7 virtual servers

In the guide with template 1.5.0 it says "will you use a single ip address?" When I choose "Single" the iApp create 7 virtual servers. In the guide it states : "the iApp creates a single virtual server for all CAS services" So this is not correct!!

Is the guide false, or the iApp?

The guide may not be technically correct here. The point is that the iApp uses a single IP address for all services, which means that it combines all of the HTTP-based services into a single virtual (OWA, OA, ActiveSync, and Audodiscover), but there will be an additional redirect virtual, and separate virtuals for the non-HTTP services, which can include POP3, IMAP, and (for 2010) multiple RPC services.

  • Correct Fred. Both the guide and the iApp could be a little more clear with the addition of "HTTP-based" CAS services. As Fred pointed out, this means a single IP address but with multiple virtual servers on the back end that use that same IP address on different ports. We will update the guide and iApp template help to clarify and call out the fact that single IP address doesn't mean single virtual server. Thanks for the question!
