Assign VLAN to Interface best practice

What is best practice when assigning a VLAN to an Interface? Currently I have 5 VLANs all using Interface 1.1. Would it be better to have each VLAN use a different Interface (1.2-1.5)? THe F5 is our internal F5 and not the DMZ F5.

  • There is no "best practice", but I would say if possible to create a LCAP trunk with at-least two interfaces(more if the bandwith is needed) and tag your VLANs on that trunk. Some also recommend a dedicated interface or truck for your HA VLAN. And even one step further make that a vPC(Cisco speak) or distributed LACP trunk to two redundant switches.

If you are using a virtual addition there is no benefit to using anything other than 1.1 if you are doing in guest VLAN tagging.
