Http monitor associated with Virtual Server

Hi,

From the F5 documentation it seems that monitors could be associated with pool, pool member or node: https://support.f5.com/kb/en-us/products/big-ip_ltm/manuals/product/ltm_configuration_guide_10_1/ltm_monitors.html1215791

Is this true for all cases or are there any exceptions? The reason why I'm asking is that I noticed one of our http monitor is checking the Virtual Server directly but I don't know if this is typical and how to achieve this behavior in the configuration utility.

Thanks, Zbynek

  • This is true in all case for LTM. However in GTM you can have an http monitor probing a virtual server. When you say you have "noticed one of our http monitor is checking the Virtual Server directly", was this is the GTM configuration?

I'm getting data via iControl using queries like "mgmt/tm/ltm/monitor" so I would expect only LTM monitors to be present. But some of the monitors (/Common/http, /Common/https) are associated with IP address which belongs to Virtual Servers under Local Traffic.
