Query about Priority Group Activation

Wanted to confirm. If Priority Group Activation is disabled. Does it make sense to even toggle priority for pool members to drain connections?

Say a Pool has 8 members and 4 are due for patching. If the members has priority group value or 20 and we reduce the 4 members' priority to 10. If Priority Group Activation is set to Disabled. Will it actually matter?

  • No, it will not matter. Much like ratios, the numbers in the priority field have no bearing unless you have priority activation enabled for the pool.

Sorry, have a follow up query. Since lowering priority will not really drain connections. The best approach is to DISABLE the members to drain the connections? and then FORCE OFFLINE once there's no more connections?

Yes, disable will allow persistence to still be used. All "new" session will be directed to other pool members. Force Offline will still allow existing TCP connections to stay open until they time out or are closed.
