URL REDIRECTION

HELLO ALL,

 

i have a scenario that i need expertly advice for. i have 2 virtual IP 10.1.2.254:8081 and 10.1.2.253:8082 with each attacched to 8 pool memebers and i have 2 URLs as crm1.wastpa.com:8081 and crm1.wastpa.com:8082 . this is working well. my task now is to setup a common URL crm1.wastpa.com:8080 for users to access either of the two virtual ips on two ports 8081 and 8082. please help

  • You can do a redirection irule based on the port hit on the 3rd VS. Or depending on your needs/setup, set the irule to just use different pools based on a condition.
  • If a user conneced to crm1.wastpa.com:8080, how would you know which pool they want ? Or if it doesn't matter, then just put those two virtuals (the 8081 and 8082) in a pool, and set the 8080 virtual to use that pool
  • IanB, I don't think that approach will work. Article SOL10379 says that the BIG-IP doesn't respond to ARP requests it issues, so a virtual server address that's placed in a pool will never receive traffic.

     

    Depending on the criteria used to determine which of the two target virtual servers should be selected, an iRule could either redirect, select a separate pool, or use the "virtual" command to pick the target of choice.
