How to configure Virtual Server with multiple ports on multiple pool

Hi All,

I am new to f5. I have just got a requirement in a new project, to deploy a virtual server with three service ports. (5799,5800,10001) Here first two ports 5799 and 5800 are on same node whereas service port 10001 is on a different node. My solution for this is to create three virtual servers on each service port, but I am looking for much more professional approach by deploying a single VS. I hope this can be done with help of irule or something else? Your answers are much appreciated.

  • The better option is to have 3 VS with 3 Pools. This provides you with greater granular control over traffic.

You can also use "*" for port on VS and then use AFM or Packet Filter or iRule to block all traffic other than the ones arriving on the ports of your choice on the VS. However, I prefer the 1st option of separate VS & Pools.

    See this: https://support.f5.com/kb/en-us/solutions/public/6000/000/sol6018.html

  • You can create an Local Traffic Policy with multiple rules and then assign it to virtual server that accept * port. That's easier to manage later
