System Shutdown & Reboot Procedures for F5 Viprion & Standalone devices - Advice required on urgent basis

To just let you know on our current setup briefly and just understand the current requirement for us to know the correct Shutdown/Reboot procedures of both Viprion & Standalone F5 LTM.

 

The models which we are referring are Viprion (2400 with two 2150 blades in slot 1 & slot 2 with 6 & 2 vCMP guests running on them).

 

We are going to relocate the devices in same datacenter, but to an enclosed and secure rack as we have very critical services running on these devices. So below are the steps involved during our activity.

 

1)As shared earlier we have 8 vCMP on each viprion host ( Viprion 1 & Viprion 2 ).

 

2)Make sure all the vCMP Active state on the Viprion 1 and in Standby state on Viprion 2 . We would test the applications here and then to proceed to bring down the Viprion 2. Once brought down will move the device (Viprion 2) to new rack.

 

3)Once the device has been moved to new rack, will connect the failover cable. And bring the device online. And make all the vCMP on this device (Viprion2) in Active state. And will test the applications are working fine here as well. Once confirmed will move the other device ( which would be in standby state) from old rack in next Change window.

 

We referred the below SOL document from F5 site, Sol14302: Replacing a VIPRION chassis that has one or more blades installed

 

As per the above activity plan we require confirmation on below,

 

1)As mentioned in below procedure for moving the vCMP from deployed state to provisioned state using the tmsh prompt and command “modify vcmp guest all state provisioned”. I believe we would be doing this on the standby host where we have the vCMP in standby state. Correct me if I’m wrong. Also let us know what we need to do to bring back these vCMP back to deployed state once we are in step 3 of the activity (mentioned above). Do we need to run any command here again to achieve this status ? Kindly confirm.

 

2)After we run, the above command assuming all the vCMP into the provisioned state, we need to run the command “clsh shutdown now” to bring down the host. We assume this will bring down all the services on the Viprion host. At this point does the host is powered off state or do we need to power off the system by disconnecting the power at source ? Kindly confirm.

 

3)After we move the device (Standby state) to new rack. Do we need to simply power on the system to bring back to normal running status ? Or do we need to do anything additional here. Kindly confirm.
