Internal and external VLAN initial config

Hi,

I have configured Big IP LTM activated it and performing the initial setup.

The Big IP LTM VM sits on vCloud director inside a vAPP and has two separate NIC's which is connected to two separate VLAN's.The vAPP is also interacts with two separate VLAN's.

Due to restrictions in our organization, it is not possible to create a separate internal and external VLAN to be provided in the internal and external network configuration during the config setup.

Could someone please let me know of a workaround and how I can configure without creation of separate VLANs? Also I have internal and external IP Address for each of the VM's created., can they be used as self IP and floating IP?

Thanks.

  • When you get done with the licensing and initial setup, there will be a page that asks if you want to move on or finish. If you click finish you can create the VLANs you need manually and do not need to go through the wizard.

Be aware that if the VM is connected to two separate logical VLANs you will need to configure your network on the BigIP to match.

How you use the IPs you have been given depends largely on where they are in your network. For instance if you have been given a single block of 2 addresses and a single VLAN, you could use one as a self IP, one as a floating self IP. You would still need a third IP for the second BigIP's nonfloating self IP. If you don't have a second BigIP, you could use the second self IP as a SNATpool IP.

On the other hand if you were given two IPs on different subnets for different VLANs you would need to use the correct IP on the correct VLAN.

The BigIP can fit into most networks, but it sounds like you need to talk to the network admin and find out how he wants the BigIP configured to work with your network.
