Configuring email alerts when a pool member fails HTTPS monitor

I have a pool that has two members in load balancing. I want to create an alert that sends an email when either one of those servers are done. They are currently using an HTTPS monitor that determines weather or not they are up, as ICMP is not allowed between the BIGIP VE box and the servers. I have configured our box according to the post linked here, including all the steps mentioned in articles SOL3667 and SOL13180.

I have verified that the BIGIP VE box can send emails using our SMTP server. I have not received any emails when we took down the websites on the servers in question.

Is there a special way I have to create the alerts because it is not a ping monitor but an https monitor?

PS: We are running version 12.1 of BIGIP Virtual Edition.

  • are you sure a SNMP trap was generated when you took the website "down" ?

    no trap, no email.

Or did you see a syslog message generated in /var/log/ltm? If so was your alert configured correctly? If so did you restart the alerting daemon too when you modified user_alert.conf?
