APM :: VMware View USB Redirection

I'm trying to get USB redirection working with VMware View 6.1.1, but I am not having any luck (BIG-IP v13.0).

I took a look at the deployment guide (https://www.f5.com/pdf/deployment-guides/vmware-horizon-view-dg.pdf) and I noticed that my setup is a little bit different. The deployment guide talks about USB redirect when you're initiating the connection with the Horizon client:

... however I'm using a scenario where the user logs into a webtop, and then they launch the Horizon client from within the webtop (using a VDI/RDP profile that points to the VMware View pool).

I have my assignment like so:

... where View USB is the VMware View Policy with USB redirection enabled, and View Assign is the Active Directory Resource Assigment.

Is this supposed to work? Am I missing something that you know of?

Thanks! -Ryan

  • I'm not using Security Servers... so I didn't think I needed a VS for port 32111... packet captures and firewall logs do not show any attempts to TCP/32111 - so I'm wondering if I'm not looking in the right place, or if this just isn't working as originally thought.

I opened a case with F5 support asking all of these questions, but right now the individual is not being helpful (just pointing me to the deployment guide and not answering my questions).

  • Hello,

I have a same issue, The USB is seen as disabled at the Horison 7 client, unable to mount a USB device on the virtual machine

F5 APM v12.1.2 VMWARE Horizon View 7 with Blast Extreme.

You have resolved the issue, if yes How?

  • Hey there, sorry to get to this late..

With Blast Extreme USB and CDR are a Virtual Channel, that are tunneled in with the Blast Extreme Ports, i would recommend also ensuring that within your VPE you have a VMware View Policy that enables USB Redirection both within the Native Client and the Browser Client.

In v12.1.2 and 13 there is a specific assignment for "VMware View Policy" that should be allowed to add, if using the iAPP should just be a menu box that allows that... Other things could be preventing the use of your USB Redirection as well when using PCoIP Such as Port 32111 From the F5 back to the Agent is not open, GPO Policies are in effect not allowing USB Redirection as well.

@Ryan can you give me more details on what you are experieincing doing it this way?

  • Hey Javier,

If using PCoIP you will need to turn on the HTTP Tunnel in the connection servers so they are tunneled through the 443 connection. if using Blast Extreme, a virtual channel is used to provide USB Redirection and the only thing to ensure is that USB Redirection is enabled via the Visual Policy Editor and/or iAPP.

Please check the following (again this is for PCoIP Only).

    1) HTTP tunnel is enabled on all connection servers used for the External connections 2) Ensure that USB Redirection is enabled in the iAPP and/or Visual Policy Editor under VMware View Policy.

Try those things and provide the results from those..

    Thanks
