F5 Big-IP v10.0.0 virtual server IP resolves incorrectly

Hi, I created a virtual server, unfortunately I was given incorrect IP information. I entered the correct IP; however the entry doesn't resolve to correct VIP FQDN. If I edit the entry and put the VIP FQDN in and select Update - it is resolving to the original incorrect IP.

I tried removing virtual server and re-creating, but it still shows with the incorrect IP.

I'm guessing there is some cached entry somewhere, but I cant find anything and I'm new to F5 having inherited this piece of equipment.

Can anyone advise. I know its a very old version and unfortunately I'm not in the position to upgrade the software.

Thanks in advance!

  • Are you talking about it resolving Destination in the Virtual Server List to host names rather than displaying IP addresses? If so, that's just cosmetic and doesn't mean anything. Eventually it'll time out from cache I guess and my limited experience with that feature is that it shouldn't take that long. Otherwise an option would be to delete the Virtual Server and recreate it.

  • Yes it isn't resolving the Destination in the virtual server list. I did try deleting the virtual server and creating a new one, when I pasted in the FQDN in the destination IP address entry it is reverting back to the incorrect IP and not picking up the correct one.

If I enter the new IP in destination address it keeps the new IP- but doesnt show up as its FQDN.

I would have expected the cache to have timed out by now as its been several hours.

  • Hi Wilkes,

Could you connect via ssh to your BIG IP and try following commands :

    nslookup hostname.domain.com

If it resolves the incorrect IP:

    1) verify that you don't have this entry in the BIG IP host file From the GUI go to: System ›› Configuration : Device : Hosts

    2) verify that the DNS servers are updated (if you have multiple DNS server maybe they are not in sync)

From the GUI go to : System ›› Configuration : Device : DNS

    3) flush DNS cache on the BIG IP and try again
