MAC masquerade address

Hi MAC masquerade address could be any one except one used already in the F5? as it is local effective. Thanks

  • Any MAC address that is not on any of the F5 connected networks.

     

    Best to take a MAC off the F5 and change the first hex pair to 02 to avoid any conflicts.

     

    e.g. 00:01:d7:93:35:08 to 02:01:d7:93:35:08

     

  • thanks for your reply. right. I guess making change to 02 of the first hex could make it absolutely unique address. Can you tell why?

      First half of the MAC is vendor hardware, 02 is reserved so never hard set by a vendor so should make it unique.

       

  • So we can say that changing any one of the first half part should make the mac unique, right?

      No as you might conflict with another vendors MAC, though unlikely it is possible.
