Self-ip ping rules

Its a well known issue. I have a HA pair of F5s running 12.1.2. I also have a downstream monitoring server in a vlan. F5 pair has the vlan but also a bunch of other vlans and vlan interfaces. Due to self-ip rules the monitoring server sees (basic icmp echo) the local vlan interface but not any of the other vlan interfaces but there is full reachability on the servers and services. The question is: has this behaviour changed in recent releases? Is there a way to force-change the behaviour? Are there plans to change this behaviour in future? Thanks in advance

  • I not aware of any known issue as you say. You should be able to ping any self IP, as long is correctly configured.

As per F5 recommendation, you should have a floating and 2 non-floating IPs for every vlan, when you have an HA pair. Can you ping from one device to the other, using the non-floating IPs?
