Public IP to damain name redirection

Hi F5 Team,

Can you help us regarding Public ip to domain name redirection.

DNS: https://f5.com

Address: 202.2.2.2

SSL Cert: Activated

Example: via nslookup: https://f5.com with public ip 202.2.2.2

when the client access https://202.2.2.2, the traffic retain https://202.2.2.2 with invalid cert.

We want to redirect the access https://202.2.2.2 to https://f5.com

thanks!

Goldz

  • If you request https://202.2.2.2, the CN that you request in the HTTPS request (202.2.2.2) does not match that of the public SSL certificate. The browser will not do a reverse lookup, thus resulting in a certificate errot. As far as the browser is concerned, it has done it's job and got a response from the URL that you requested.

Is there any reason your clients are making the request based on IP address and not an FQDN?

As Lee already mentioned this is not possible.

The SSL certificate error in the client’s web browser (subject name mismatch) for 202.2.2.2 will prevent the re-direct from triggering.
