File Size Understanding and Upgrade of software

Hi all, I need to upgrade my software version from 13.0.0 to 13.0.1.

I'll need to review the steps I need to take but I think I should be fine with the process.

I do however struggle with the following,

How do I check that I have enough hard disk space available for the new installation?

I can see from the GUI that I do , its more for my understanding.

Running the pvs shows the following .... This is my physical hard disk, isn't it ? So my physical hard disk has the name of vg-db-sda ??? with 342G free. PV VG Fmt Attr PSize PFree /dev/sda3 vg-db-sda lvm2 a-- 464.26g 342.21g

I've then run df -h. I really confused on what this is actually telling and how this relates to how the physical disk is spilt between the various logical drives / partitions. i.e. HD1.1 HD1.2 & HD1.3.

Taking the top entry in the list below, what is /dev/mapper/vg--db--sda-set.2.root ? If I use WinSCP and navigate to /dev/mapper/vg--db--sda-set.2.root I can see the files but these are very small files.

Filesystem Size Used Avail Use% Mounted on /dev/mapper/vg--db--sda-set.2.root 427M 215M 190M 54% / none 3.9G 447M 3.5G 12% /dev/shm /dev/mapper/vg--db--sda-set.2._config 3.2G 90M 2.9G 3% /config /dev/mapper/vg--db--sda-set.2._usr 3.6G 2.7G 698M 80% /usr /dev/mapper/vg--db--sda-set.2._var 3.0G 691M 2.2G 25% /var /dev/mapper/vg--db--sda-dat.share.1 30G 8.7G 20G 31% /shared /dev/mapper/vg--db--sda-dat.log.1 6.9G 5.1G 1.6G 77% /var/log none 3.9G 35M 3.9G 1% /shared/rrd.1.2 none 3.9G 63M 3.9G 2% /var/tmstat none 3.9G 1.5M 3.9G 1% /var/run prompt 4.0M 24K 4.0M 1% /var/prompt none 3.9G 0 3.9G 0% /var/loipc /dev/mapper/vg--db--sda-app.ASWADB.set.2.mysqldb 24G 1.9G 21G 9% /var/lib/mysql none 3.9G 0 3.9G 0% /mnt/sshplugin_tempfs /dev/mapper/vg--db--sda-app.avr.dat.avrdata 3.8G 65M 3.5G 2% /shared/avr /dev/mapper/vg--db--sda-app.afm.dat.afmdata 3.8G 65M 3.5G 2% /shared/avr_afm

If I was to issue the command to create a new logical disk/ partition for a new installation how would I or the system allocate space to the new location ie. HD1.4??

How the iso file is under 2GB how much actual space do I need for this to be installed.

I know I could install the new software on a old ( non active ) partition but I would like to futher my knowledge.

Thanks in advance.

  • this pretty happens automatically if you create a new volume, i.e. 1.4 or 1.5. in general you don't have to worry to much.

on virtual editions you can do 2 or 3 volumes on the same instance. with hardware appliances you can create a lot more.
