CNAME configuration in 12.1.2 version

Hi All,

We have F5 GTM (version 12.1.2), we need to create a cname for something-xyz.us-east-1.elb.amazonaws.com that should be mapped to abc.mydomain.com

What should be the steps to configure as mentioned above in F5 DNS.

For your info, when I do the DNS lookup of abc.mydomain.com is showed *DNS Record not found reported by MY NS SERVER; which is F5 Listner IP.

Also, I tried configuring the same as mentioned in this link https://support.f5.com/kb/en-us/products/big-ip-dns/manuals/product/bigip-dns-implementations-12-1-0/5.htmlconceptid but do not know what to select in Point 5 of Creating a cname pool. Also, not sure, where to type the the actual cname ??

Please help !!

Regards,

Rahul

  • Hi Rahul,

    can you try this:

    dig @8.8.8.8 A corp.local
    dig @8.8.8.8 A corp.local +short

Just validate before that your F5 can contact google DNS (check routing an FW rules). You can also try dig or nslookup with an internal DNS an try to resolve internal name (I suppose that fw rules was right for this).

  • Let me rephrase my question.

1: my parent domain abc.com hosted on some Global DNS, which point towards my F5 listener IP.

2: created an URL (sub domain) xyz.abc.com

3: application which is behind the xyz.abc.com is hosted on bla.bla.bla.aws.com (outside my environment) 4: now requirement is when user access xyz.abc.com, then the request should redirect to bla.bla.bla.aws.com 5: Need help to configure, what is mentioned in point 4

    Regards,
