Concerns About Statistic Numbers

So we have a large amount of traffic expected with a launch of a new product. We are watching the connections quite closely to monitor performance of both the website and the F5. However I'm seeing some odd information across the reporting platforms. I do understand that each detects traffic differently and reports different representations of information however I don't believe they should be this far apart.

On the F5 Pools, I see a total of 14 connections. When I look at the statistics on the Virtual IP for that website, it shows 101 connections. And when I look at Google Analytics, it shows 63 connected users.

We are primarily looking at the pools to make sure the load is spread nicely and that things are running well. But I am concerned that the pool numbers are so small in comparison to the other data points. Is this something I should reach out to F5 support for? Is there something I am missing?

Thanks!

  • Hi Steve,

Do you have a OneConnect profile on your Virtual Server? This will use existing connections to your pool memebers so that you're not having to spawn new TCP three way handshakes for every connection. This is a good thing as it puts less load on your internal network and can speed up connectivity to your application.

Also, users are not analogous to users, you may have many users from the same connection, particularity if you ISP is multiplexing connections to you. This is quite common for services through Akamai for example.
