GTM monitoring to back end server.

Hi Expert,

I want to understand How the GTM monitors virtual servers. I understand that GTM run Iquery to monitor the virtual servers configured in LTM.

We have an issue with application through VIP so we allowed access direct to serve,r bypassing F5 and on GTM in virtual server updated the Server IP (backend server IP)

So I was thinking DNS resolution will fail as GTM will not able to monitor the server, but DNS is resolving. Whilefound digging further found that GTM is monitoring the SERVER with ICMP though we have not specified monitor as gateway_icmp anywhere in GTM. We are using Health monitor as bigip in GTM Servers and not using monitor anywhere.

 

How come GTM initiating ICMP to monitor server (Physical server i.e.hosting application)

    Hi Surya,

    don't you have a monitor assigned to the pool in the GTM? You can assign monitors on the server definition or within the actual pools. if you run tcpdump in the server itself, it could be the monitoring traffic is coming from the LTM and not the GTM.
