Is there a way to see the GRUB2 boot menu using the AOM (on an i5600) rather than a serial cable?

Our appliances are getting hung up when booted into v14 and the 'switchboot' utility won't work. If I'm working remote or late at night, it would be nice to be able to recover without having to drive to our colo facility. Otherwise, can I edit the GRUB2 boot config over SSH to cause it to switch active volumes?

  • Short answer yes as long as you have AOM IP address configured and you are SSH'ed directly to the AOM.

I have not done this on an i5600, I think some devices (likely much old devices) kicked you out of AOM on reboot but a quick reconnect over SSH was all you needed, but I have recovered devices before and gone into single user mode all remotely via AOM.

  • Here's how I do it often,

    1. ssh to AOM address
    2. hostconsh ~or~ exec /bin/aomconsh -u -b 19200
    3. Esc (
    4. 2 - Reboot Host subsystem
    5. Select your options from the boot menu
