Problem connecting a custom edge client using narrow bandwidth connections

We are working together with a customer who uses the BIG-IP APM to protect their ATM network. Some of these devices are connected using narrow bandwidth, like VSAT, 3G, and others. In order to have a deep control over the access process they are customizing their own EdgeClient using the SDK provided by F5.

Everything is working well there, but they have some doubts regarding the optimization. I will try to enumerate these questions below:

  • They noted that sometimes the SDK will download some files from the APM appliance. They would like to know if it is possible to deploy the whole client package with these files included, avoiding so the download that makes some devices take a long time to connect;
  • They also noted that sometimes these files may be downloaded again. We are speculating that it happens always when we chance something in the configuration, but we were not able to find anything in the documentation. They would like to know if there is somehow we can avoid these downloads, or at least predict when they will happen in order to plan our future configurations and maintenance windows.

Here goes the information about the files that they are observing being downloaded by the network access client:

They told us that the files is being downloaded to the directory C:\Windows\Downloaded Program Files; These are the files being downloaded:

  • F5 VPN\F5_TMP\f5tunsrv.cab
  • F5 VPN\F5_TMP\urxhost.cab
  • F5 VPN\F5_TMP\urxvpn.cab

All these files can also be found in the official EdgeClient package.
