11.x Upgrade GTM Question

Apologies if this is a stupid question, but this is the first upgrade I have performed. The Upgrading 11.x Software document has an indication in the GTM system preparation and configuration section that you should disable synchronization "before upgrading GTM systems from version 11.x to the new version software (BIG-IP DNS)". It is my understanding that GTM is renamed to DNS in version 12. For that reason, my assumption is this step is unnecessary since I am only upgrading from one version of 11 to another (11.5 to 11.6). Am I understanding this correctly?
