The main advantage is you have the processing capacity of two devices available to serve traffic instead of one. you can spread your traffic load between them.
Notes
- SNAT is required for all traffic in active/active.
- Local traffic manager supports this, other modules may not.

Hi Kevin,
Is it possible to configure F5 LTM active/active when F5 is configured in two-arms mode?
- The application servers use F5 as their default gateway.
- F5 VS configuration does not use SNAT.
Thanks for your help,
PB

An active-active architecture can be helpful in case of high load over an active-standby architecture. With the drawback that, if you loose one of your nodes, the other one will not be able to cope with complete traffic load.
Most of the time an active-active solution makes sense in a (at least) 3 node cluster where one is on standby, in case of a loss... planned or not (e.g.: maintenance)

Its generic question. Please refer below article, it will help you to understand.
LTM Active/Active vs Active/Standby?
Why isnt Active/Active the norm?
Why is an Active-Active configuration not recommended by F5?
